Watering Holes

The painting in the last post inspired this one.  The best thing about painting in a series is that you don't have to search for a subject, so you can concentrate on color, design, mood and contrast.  The values and warm hues around the bar focus attention on the figures and the glossy bar top.

I have a hunch that the best part of this series is going to be the research!

  1. Carol, did you start off as a loose painter? Do you have any exercises a person can do to get to be a looser painter.

  2. Try this, Ted: Choose an old painting. Have a friend stand near you while you paint it again.
But....You are limited to 100 strokes. A stroke should be counted every time you lift your brush from the paper. Try to finish the painting in one hundred strokes. Let me know how it goes!

  3. Carol,
I was just on the NWS site viewing 2010 winners.
THIS should be one of them!
Do you ever enter your fabulous paintings?

  4. Thanks, Rosie! I entered the 2009 Watercolor USA competition in Springfield, MO and was accepted. But I have been hesitant about entering other contests. This year, though, I'll be more dedicated to submitting my work.
    Thanks for the support!
